Poiana Brasov is a beautiful modern spa, located close to the city of Brasov, on a mountain plateau of the Southern Carpathian Mountains. Short history
Poiana Brasov was founded in 1895 as a tourist place for inhabitants of the city of Brasov. The first big chalet was built in 1904, and the place received the recognition as winter resort in 1906. Three years later winter sport competitions started to be held regularly. In 1951, Poiana Brasov was the place chosen for the International Student Winter Games. Today it is a small mountain town with luxury hotels and good restaurants.
Geography
The resort is located at 1030 meters altitude at the foot of the Postavaru Mountain whose highest peak is 1799 meters.

- Brasov: Black Church (1384-1477) - initially called St. Virgin Mary,
represents one of the most important monuments of Gothic art in
Romania.
Its present name is a consequence of a fire that affected the city in 1686. The tower, of 65 m high, shelters the biggest bell in the country. Inside the church is one of the biggest organs in the country and a collection of old Oriental carpets (XV-th - XVIII-th centuries). - Brasov: City Hall - situated in the very heart of the town Brasov, is a monumental building first mentioned in 1420, renovated in the XVIII-th century in Baroque style.
- The Bran Castle - an architectural monument built between 1377 - 1382, on a 60 m high rock, carried out military functions and was a border point. The fortress had an important military role defending the mountain pass to old "Romania Country". Because of the authentic medieval atmosphere Bran Castle is associated with the famous legend of Count Dracula.

Climate
The summer average temperature is 20 degrees Centigrade, and in the winter is minus 3 degrees Centigrade. There is snow usually from the second half of December until the end of March 50-60 CMS deep, but the first snowflakes may fall in late September and as late as the end of April.
